WhatsApp messages misusing the names and email addresses Kidwells Law Solicitors Ltd and various staff at the firm.
What is the scam?
The SRA have seen WhatsApp messages misusing the name of Kidwells Law Solicitors Ltd. The messages seen by the SRA have been sent from the number + 44 7459 878 525 and request that the member of the public start transferring deposit monies into an alternative 'trust' bank account.
The messages falsely purport to be from an Apprentice Licensed Conveyancer at the genuine firm, and also misuse within them the name and email addresses of a Supervising Solicitor and secretary at the genuine firm (see below for genuine details).
Any business or transactions through the phone number + 44 7459 878 525, or associated messages from that number, are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Kidwells Law Solicitors Ltd, which trades as Kidwells Solicitors and whose SRA ID is 535081. The head office of the firm is at Kidwells House, 4 Coldnose Road, Rotherwas Industrial Estate, Hereford, Herefordshire, HR2 6JL. Its genuine email domain is @kidwellssolicitors.co.uk. The contact number for the firm's head office in Hereford is 01432 278 179.
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor named Alan Michael Kidwell-Horne (also known as Michael Horne), who is a Director and Supervisor at Kidwells Law Solicitors Ltd. His SRA ID is 333839.
Kidwells Law Solicitors Ltd have also confirmed that there is a genuine Tianna Sampson (an Apprentice Licensed Conveyancer) and a genuine Aleksandra Karwacka (Secretary) who are employed by Kidwells Law Solicitors Ltd.
The genuine firm has confirmed that neither the firm not any of their staff have any genuine connection to the phone number or messages referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
