Warning: Email sent misusing the name of Precision Legal Limited

An email has been sent misusing the name of Precision Legal Limited in relation to a supposed inheritance.

What is the scam?

An email has been sent from an individual called 'Barrister James Larsson' misusing the name of Precision Legal Limited in relation to a supposed inheritance of an unknown individual with a supposed same surname of the recipient.

The email was sent using an email address of 'james.larsson@precisionlegalltd.com'.

The email provides a telephone number of '+44 116 464 9541' and a website address of 'https://precisionlegalltd.com'.

The SRA does not authorise and regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Precision Legal' or 'Precision Legal Ltd' but see below in relation to a genuine solicitor and a company of that whose name and address are being misused.

Any business or transaction through the website https://precisionlegalltd.com or the email and telephone number or email address above are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA has been informed there is a genuine company called Precision Legal Limited, based at Office 9 The Coach House, Desford Hall, Leicester, Leicestershire, England, LE9 9JJ, Company number 11859382. It is not a firm of solicitors, but we understand that it is owned and operated by a genuine solicitor, Matthew Buswell (SRA ID:576252), as a separate recruitment company.

The genuine solicitor, Matthew Buswell, has confirmed that neither he nor his genuine company called Precision Legal Limited have any connection to the website 'www.precisionlegalltd.com' referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
